Easter, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion, was celebrated on Sunday by the Christian fraternity in the Prakasam area.
People visited the cemeteries to honour the seniors and took part in the special prayers and masses at different churches around the area.
The 40 days of Lent, a time of fasting, penance, and prayer to remember the 40 days that Jesus Christ suffered in the wilderness before being killed and risen on the third day, came to an end on Easter Day for Christians.
Christians from different locations attended midnight masses, while others arrived at the churches early in the morning with their families and took part in the special prayers. The Jewett Memorial Baptist Church has been holding prayers at the Jewett Prayer Hill since the early hours of the morning, and there have been sizable crowds of Christ-followers at the St Teresa Church, RCM Church, Nazarene Baptist Church, Resurrection Baptist Church, Immanuel Baptist Church, The Lord Church, Pentecost Prayer Hall, and the Christian Burial Ground at Mamidipalem.
Easter was also celebrated by the district’s churches, including the RCM, CSI, Telugu Baptist Church, Jesus Holy Church in Giddalur, Believers Eastern Church at Bestavaripet, Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church in Yerragondapelm, Telugu Baptist Town Church in Markapur, Hosanna Mandir in Darsi, ABM, RCM, CSI, Calvary, Lutheran Churches, Church of Christ in Donakonda, and Kanigiri Durgam Baptist Church, and several others.
