On May 1, the 57-year-old broke the news on Weibo stating that neither she nor Liu regrets the choice. Their daughter, Crystal, is preparing to study abroad, Liu has been busy working in the U.S., and Yung has frequently traveled across China for filming and television shows. The couple eventually agreed to live separately so Liu could settle overseas to care for their daughter, according to Sinchew.
She added that while her family initially worried about the impact of living apart, their relationship has actually improved, Dimsum Daily reported. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder,” she said.

Now living alone in a luxury home in Zhejiang Province, China, Yung shared that the couple follows the “three nos”: no checking schedules, no checking phones, and no interfering in each other’s work. She said this approach has reduced conflict and improved their communication.
Her statement surprised many fans, especially as she had publicly celebrated her 15th wedding anniversary in 2023, posting a tribute to Liu that read: “He helped me overcome my fear of marriage.” Yung said that after divorcing her first husband, she felt disillusioned and fearful of marriage.
Reactions online have been mixed. Many praised Yung’s independence and outlook, with one user commenting: “She has a career, financial freedom, and a peaceful life. What’s the issue?” Others said that living apart might help some couples avoid daily conflict. Some, however, questioned the sustainability of such arrangements, with one comment noting: “This is just living apart, not separation. Separation usually leads to divorce, but that does not seem to be their goal.”

Yung rose to fame after winning Miss Asia in 1989. She began her career with modest roles before gaining attention in the early 1990s through Category III films. She later appeared in acclaimed productions such as “Justice, My Foot” with Stephen Chow and “Drunken Master II” with Jackie Chan.
At her peak, Yung’s popularity rivaled other well-known sex symbols like Chingmy Yau, Amy Yip, and Veronica Yip. Though she has scaled back her acting career in recent years, she still makes occasional public and television appearances.
She was previously married to an American casino executive, but the marriage ended after two years. In 2007, she married Liu, with whom she shares one daughter, Crystal Liu.
