have reportedly cancelled their annual awards evening . The bash is usually hosted at Old Trafford with several prizes, including the club's Player of the Year trophy, handed out to players.

However, club officials are said to have changed their plans, in part due to the Red Devils' disastrous campaign. Ruben Amorim has won only six of his 26 league games since replacing Erik ten Hag in November. His side are a dismal 16th in the Premier League and only Tottenham separate them from the bottom three. A run to the Europa League final, incidentally in which their opponents are Spurs, has provided a small respite from another terrible term.

report that other reasons have factored into the cancellation of the awards night, which also usually features a lavish dinner. United's schedule means they have little free time between now and their post-season trip to Asia.

They face Premier League matches against Chelsea and Aston Villa either side of the Europa League final, which will take place on May 21. There are reportedly also concerns that throwing an expensive party would not go down well with employees due to cuts made to the staff.

INEOS have embarked on a widespread cost-cutting operation that is set to see the club's workforce trimmed from around 1,100 to 700. Sections of the fanbase have been unhappy over a series of redundancies.

Instead, it is anticipated that prizes such as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award will be dished out before the final game of the season. United round off their campaign at home against Villa on May 25. Bruno Fernandes, who has scored 19 goals and provided 19 assists this term, is widely expected to win the top award.

A Players' Player of the Year award is also usually dished out. The Jimmy Murphy Award for the best talent in the academy is also highly coveted. Previous winners include Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

It is the third time in four seasons that they dinner has been abandoned. Last year, it was cancelled after Ten Hag led United to eighth place. He subsequently won the FA Cup, was handed a new contract, but was then sacked last October after a tough start to the campaign.

There was also no party in 2021-22 when United also finished eighth. Ralf Rangnick had taken over as interim manager midway through the campaign, replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
