Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning recorded a two-day weekend total of Rs. 37.75 crore (USD 4.40 million) in India. While the figure remains impressive for a Hollywood film, it falls below expectations, especially when compared to the franchise’s previous highs in the Indian market.

The film’s day-wise earnings are as follows:

  • Saturday: Rs. 18.75 crore
  • Sunday: Rs. 19.00 crore

Despite the strong brand value of the Mission: Impossible series and a well-established fan base, the sequel failed to show significant growth on Sunday, leaving it far short of past franchise benchmarks.

A Dip from Franchise Standards

The comparison with earlier entries paints a clearer picture of the decline. Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning opened to Rs. 77 crore in its five-day weekend, with Rs. 41 crore coming from Saturday and Sunday alone. Even 2018’s Fallout managed Rs. 35 crore over the same two-day frame a number that would be over Rs. 50 crore today when adjusted for inflation and market growth.

Given that The Final Reckoning was expected to match or surpass those figures, the current performance is disappointing. The lack of upward momentum after Saturday’s softer-than-expected start has made it unlikely that the film will surpass the lifetime total of Dead Reckoning in India.

Franchise Ends Its Box Office Climb

Since Ghost Protocol (2011), each new Mission: Impossible film had improved upon the last at the Indian box office. That decade-long trend has now come to an end. With The Final Reckoning closing out the franchise, it does so on a downward note, a rare occurrence for such a globally iconic series.

Not Just an India Problem

The lukewarm response in India appears to be part of a larger global trend. Early reports suggest The Final Reckoning is also underperforming in several other international markets, indicating a broader audience fatigue or perhaps competition from other major releases.

Conclusion

While Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning is far from a flop, its subdued opening signals a disappointing end to one of Hollywood’s most successful action franchises in India. For fans and box office watchers alike, this final mission seems to have fallen short of its target.
