This 90s actress had a brief yet notable career in Bollywood. Despite working alongside stalwarts including Rishi Kapoor Sunny Deol she decided to quit industry just six weeks after her marriage. We are talking a none other than Sonam Khan who rose to fame after her Tirchi Topiwale song. Born in 1972 as Bakhtawar Khan she is the granddaughter of late actor Murad and niece of actor Raza Murad. She began her acting career at the mere age of 15 with the Telugu movie Samrat. Later she made her Bollywood debut with Yash Chopras Vijay. The actress once revealed that she initially lied to Yash Chopra about her age to secure the role in the film. Following that Sonam went on to feature in several movies including Mitti Aur Sona Krodh Pyar Ka Karz Ajooba Fateh Kohraam Vishwatma Baaz and Insaaniyat. But she catapulted to overnight stardom after her role in the 1989 film Tridev. Despite her early success Sonams career took a drastic turn. Just as she was at the peak of her stardom she chose to quit the film industry and got married. She was reportedly offered to work with Sunny Deol in the film Lutere but turned down the offer to prioritise her marital life. She met film producer Rajiv Rai son of Gulshan Rai in 1991 and tied the knot after dating for 3 years. The actress bid adieu to the filmy world after her last film Insaaniyat released in 1994. Shortly after her marriage there were rumours about her alleged association with underworld don Abu Salem which brought her in negative limelight. She then left India moving to various countries over the next 15 years. In 2001 her marriage to Rajiv Rai ended in separation citing irreconcilable differences as the reason. Now 52 Sonam is currently settled in Mumbai with her son embracing the role of a single mother and living a life away from the hustle bustle of film industry.
