New Delhi: Delhi remained on a ‘red alert’ on Thursday due to scorching heat and the maximum temperature in many parts reached 45.2 degrees Celsius. Mungeshpur recorded the highest temperature of 45.2 degrees Celsius, followed by both Ridge and Ayanagar at 44.2 degrees Celsius and Safdarjung and Palam also recorded a temperature of 43.9 degrees Celsius.
Apart from this, 43.1 degree Celsius was recorded in Pitampura, 41.2 degree Celsius in Mayur Vihar, 40.8 degree Celsius in Rajghat and 41 degree Celsius in Najafgarh. IMD said that the temperature was three to four degrees above normal in all places. The minimum temperature in Safdarjung was 30.7 degree Celsius, which was 2.7 degree Celsius above normal and the humidity level was between 39 percent to 73 percent. IMD has predicted on Thursday that heat wave conditions will continue at different places in Delhi.
People will soon get relief from heat
By night, the sky is likely to be partly cloudy with very light rain or thundershowers. Dust storms, lightning and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph are also likely. Friday is expected to be hot and humid, with maximum temperatures expected to hover between 41 and 43 degrees Celsius. Strong winds and light rain are expected by evening.
The temperature in Delhi is expected to decrease gradually from June 14 and the temperature is expected to remain between 37 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius. Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected to bring relief from the heat here between June 16 and 18. The IMD has indicated that there is no possibility of heat wave after June 13.
Possibility of rain due to western disturbance: IMD senior scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar said that the western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from the night of June 13, which may cause light rain and thundershowers in Delhi. Due to this, the intensity of the heat wave is expected to decrease, which may replace the ‘red alert’ with ‘orange alert’. At the same time, due to the drop in temperature from June 14-17, the mercury may remain between 37-42 degrees Celsius and strong winds may blow along with light to moderate rain. This may reduce the heat- problems.
Hottest place in Delhi: Let us tell you that at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, Ayanagar was the hottest place with 45.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Palam at 44.5 degrees Celsius, Ridge area at 43.6 degrees Celsius, Pitampura at 43.5 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road at 43.4 degrees Celsius, Mayur Vihar at 40.9 degrees Celsius and Safdarjung at 43.3 degrees Celsius. This temperature is three to four degrees Celsius higher than normal.
