Before the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, the Jan Suraj Party has been allotted ‘School Bag’ election symbol by the Election Commission. Now all the 243 candidates of the party will enter the field under this symbol. The party welcomed this decision and said that this symbol is a symbol of their policy -based and inclusive development goals.

This important step has come to light about eight months after the formal formation of Jan Suraj Party. Prashant Kishore started this party on 2 October 2024 from the Veterinary College Ground in Patna. This launch took place two years after his historic 3,000 km long padyatra, which he started from West Champaran from Gandhiji’s first Satyagraha site. The purpose of this journey was to create an alternative path in Bihar politics.

Uday Singh became the first national president of the party

Recently, former BJP MP Uday Singh has been unanimously elected as the first national president of Jan Suraj Party. Prashant Kishore made it clear that he will now focus more on public relations campaign, while the responsibility of the organization will be entrusted to Uday Singh and other senior leaders.

How do new parties get election symbol?

Under the rules of the Election Commission of India, a new political party is considered the first non-recognized party. Such parties are allowed to choose election symbols from the list issued by the Commission. Signs are allotted on priority basis. If the party performs well in the future, it can achieve the status of a state or national recognized party.

Preparation for election in Bihar

Elections for all 243 seats of Bihar Legislative Assembly are proposed in October-November 2025. In view of the current political developments, the Jan Suraj Party is going to enter a new role in these elections.
