A Milestone for Female-Led Films

Sonakshi Sinha expressed her excitement over the simultaneous release of two films led by women, her own 'Nikita Roy' and Kajol's 'Maa'.

Nikita Roy, a psychological thriller, is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on June 27, coinciding with the release of 'Maa', a mythological horror film.

"It's fantastic that we have two films featuring women being released at the same time. This is a positive step forward, and it's wonderful to see it happening. There’s space for both films, which are quite distinct from each other, and I wish them both success. It’s a healthy competition between the two," Sonakshi remarked.

She also shared her thoughts on 'Maa', stating, "I watched the trailer and found it enjoyable. Kajol is an incredible actress whom I admire greatly. I am eager to see her film."

Both films highlight strong female narratives, a cause that Sonakshi is deeply passionate about. Over the years, she has intentionally selected roles that empower women, as seen in her performances in 'Akira', 'Dahaad', and 'Heeramandi'.

In 'Nikita Roy', Sonakshi portrays an investigator who challenges supernatural claims and exposes frauds. However, her beliefs are tested when she faces a case that challenges her convictions.

Written by Pavan Kirpalani, known for 'Phobia', 'Nikita Roy' delves into the delicate line between perception and reality, exploring themes of paranoia, hidden truths, and the darker aspects of the human psyche. The film is directed by Sonakshi's brother, Kussh S Sinha, who is making his directorial debut.

Sonakshi noted that working with her brother was a smooth experience. "I expected some sibling disagreements on set, but that didn’t happen. I was the actor, and he was the director. He has a clear vision of how he wants to present each scene," she explained.
