Johannesburg: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has appointed Patrick Moroni as the new convenor of the national men’s team. At the beginning of the year, the CSA announced to resume the post, for which applications were sought by 29 April.
The post was vacant since Victor Mapitsang was removed in 2023. Test coach Shukri Konrad and limited overs coach Rob Walter teams were selected after he left, but after the Champions Trophy-2025, when Walter left the post, Konrad took over the responsibility of all the formats.
Patrick Moroni has worked as the Director of Sports and Marketing at the school level. He has been part of several selection committees, including posts such as Youth Men’s Talent Identification Program and Chief Selector of Lions Cricket.
Moroni has been refining skills as a selector since 2001. Earlier, SA National Academy, SA Emerging and Senior Under-19 have been the Chief Selector for Men’s teams. “CSA’s National Teams and High Performance Director Anok Encway said,” CSA is proud to announce the important role of the selectors of the Senior Men’s Protiaz Team, “said Anok Encway.
He said, “He is best suited for this role due to his deepest understanding of the game and his decades of talent’s experience in selection. We are happy that Patrick is now part of our team. We are excited to work together and see their positive effects.”
As the new chief selector, Moroni will now report to Encway and work closely with Head Coach Shukri Konrad. He will be posted at the CSA Center of Excellence in Pretoria. Moroni’s tenure will be formally begun from 1 August. This term will be three years old.
