Good news for citizens of Mumbai, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has officially announced that soon all parking payments can be done with the FASTag. With the escalating complaints about parking scams and fake attendants, this is definitely going to be a relief for Mumbaikars.
BMC has upgraded its payment options, and car owners will receive a QR code to scan linked to the FASTag through which the parking fee will be automatically deducted, removing any middleman or attendant trying to scam you. The BMC’s main aim for setting up this new system is so that people don’t get conned by fake parking officials who try to get them to overcharge.
Speaking to Maharashtra Times, a senior BMC official said, “We’ve received numerous complaints from citizens about bogus parking attendants charging arbitrary fees. By switching to FASTagbased payment, we are bringing transparency, safety, and convenience to the parking experience.”
To make life convenient and simpler for Mumbaikars, BMC plans to launch a mobile app that will provide plenty of helpful information and make parking stressfree. The app will allow users to know which lots are available and what the current parking fee is, and will directly receive the receipt. All this will be available a click away. BMC has not yet announced the timeline for the launch of this new parking app.
The new digital parking plan will be introduced in a phased manner, starting with a handful of parking areas run by BMC. The pilot launch will test its feasibility and identify potential issues before a fullscale rollout. After ironing out the initial niggles and glitches, the BMC will introduce the new system across the city that covers over 100 parking lots.
The main reason to start a new parking setup is to ensure that users experience an easy and reliable system that also ensures a safe area for the vehicle. The digital system also removes the burden of carrying cash or being harassed by fake parking attendants trying to jack up the fees.
