Seventeen-year-old Farhan Ahmed made history Friday as the first Nottinghamshire player to snag a hat-trick in T20 cricket. He accomplished this notable achievement in a Vitality Blast game against Lancashire, also grabbing five wickets and leading his team to a four-wicket win.

Interestingly, Farhan is the younger brother of England’s up-and-coming spinner, Rehan Ahmed. He played in the 2024 U19 World Cup and made news last year as Nottinghamshire’s youngest first-class cricketer. In his debut, he took 7 wickets for 140 runs and later became the youngest player in British first-class cricket to grab 10 wickets in a match.

In the recent T20 blast match against Lancashire, Farhan Ahmed had an amazing spell, finishing with 5 wickets for 25 runs in 5 overs. He got his hat-trick in the last over, dismissing Luke Wood, Tom Aspinwall, and Mitchell Stanley in consecutive balls. Before that, he also took out Chris Green, one of Lancashire’s main batters.

Because of Farhan’s bowling, Lancashire was bowled out for just 126 runs. Even though Lancashire had a good start with Phil Salt and Keaton Jennings putting on 38 runs, they soon fell to 53/5. Matty Hurst and Chris Green then added 63 runs, but once that ended, the team could not recover.

Nottinghamshire’s chase was not simple. They were at 14/4 in just the third over. But Lyndon James and Tom Moores saved the innings with an 81-run partnership for the fifth wicket. After James was out, Moores and Daniel Sams steadily led Nottinghamshire to victory in the 16th over.
