Prominent Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt has left the country amid growing backlash over allegations of blasphemy. The content creator, known for his vlogs and strong social media presence, has reportedly travelled to an undisclosed location and announced a temporary break from vlogging.

In a vlog uploaded yesterday, Rajab explained the emotional circumstances surrounding his sudden departure. He revealed that his mother, deeply concerned for his safety, accompanied him to the airport. “I will not upload any new vlog without my mother’s permission,” he said, visibly emotional. He added that his family was heartbroken at his exit and that he can no longer live safely in his hometown due to threats and fear.

The controversy emerged from an old video clip, recorded two years ago, which recently resurfaced on social media. The video allegedly contained disrespectful remarks about revered Islamic personalities. Rajab clarified in his latest vlog that he did not make those comments intentionally and apologized repeatedly. “I never meant to offend anyone,” he said, urging viewers to understand the context of the old footage.

Rajab made a public appeal to the Chief Minister of Punjab and the federal government, requesting protection for himself and his family. “Please provide security to my loved ones. I am not a criminal,” he pleaded. He also said he has recorded videos explaining his side of the story and will release them when the situation calms down.

The blasphemy allegation was initially raised through a petition filed in a Lahore court by a concerned citizen. The petition claimed that Rajab used derogatory language about the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) companions in a social media post. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has been approached, though no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed so far.

Rajab Butt is no stranger to controversy. Earlier this year, he was arrested the day after his wedding for illegal possession of a lion cub and for displaying weapons. In another case, he and his cousin Salman Haider were booked in a serious complaint involving rape, blackmail, and unlawful confinement. Rajab was accused of assisting in the illegal detention of the complainant and her sister. Both secured interim bail.

In May, a video allegedly showing Rajab and his friends assaulting a young man also went viral. Although a police complaint was filed, the matter was resolved after Rajab issued a public apology and the complainant withdrew his case.

Rajab has also faced criticism for naming one of his perfumes “295”, referencing Pakistan’s blasphemy law. The move sparked outrage, adding to the existing tension around his public image.
