Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly Tejashwi Yadav has written a letter to 35 leaders of the opposition in protest against the special intensive revision (SIR) campaign of the voter list being run by the Election Commission in Bihar.

Sharing a copy of the letter written on the social networking site X, Tejashwi Yadav wrote in the caption, “At the behest of the BJP government, the Election Commission wrote a letter to 35 big leaders of various parties of the country against the attack on the right to vote under the guise of voter list and the attack on democracy. We will all oppose this process until it is transparent and inclusive.”

The leaders whom he has written to, included Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Singh Yadav and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

He wrote in the letter, “The spectacle and tragedy of special intense revision in Bihar is shaking the foundation of democracy by depriving them of large -scale franchise. This is a clear indication of how an ‘independent institution like Indian Election Commission’ is adamant on ending the trust of the people in the integrity of our electoral process.

Every person in this country, whether his background or position is proud of his vote. The ability to participate in the rule of the country makes it extremely strong. ”

He further wrote that millions of voters are being restless and humiliated without any mistake. He further wrote that on 16 July, the Election Commission said in the press note that about 4.5 percent of the population has already been out of voting in the name of ‘not getting voters at their address’.

It is in addition to four percent of the people who have been “possibly” or have moved permanently. Based on these data, it is estimated that the number of people deprived of the franchise is between 12 and 15 percent. This is unprecedented in the history of our country.

Tejashwi Yadav further wrote in his letter that the Supreme Court has also said that the Election Commission has not done any favor for itself by announcing and implementing the process in a random and arbitrary manner. They are not transparent. They are making and breaking their rules. Worse is that they are targeting every person seeking transparency and accountability.

Referring to the Maharashtra assembly elections, RJD leader Tejashwi wrote in the letter that his experience is still fresh in our memories. However, we are still waiting for a noble destiny and concrete response from the Election Commission. Now it is Bihar’s turn.

He wrote at the end of the letter, “It should be opposed in strict words as much as possible. Because if we do not raise our voice and do not register our strong opposition, the same will be done in other states. The constitution demands that we protect the Republic. We should not lag behind this historic turn.”
