Mohammed Shami was not included in the team for the England tour due to injury. Shami was injured in a few matches during the IPL. His performance in IPL 2025 was much worse than average. Due to this, the Indian team was not ready to take any risks with Mohammed Shami. Shami last played for India in the Champions Trophy. Shami took 9 wickets in five matches of the Champions Trophy. India won the Champions Trophy. At the same time, Shami took 24 wickets in the 2023 ODI World Cup. After that, he had to undergo surgery.
Mohammed Shami is likely to play for the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, the first tournament of the season starting from August 28. If all goes well, the tournament could be a good sign for Shami’s return to competitive cricket. Shami last played for India in the Champions Trophy earlier this year after recovering from an ankle injury.
