Actor Parmeet Sethi widely remembered for his role as Kuljeet in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) recently shared the untold story of how he landed the part. According to reports Parmeet revealed that getting this iconic role was far from easy. Even after sending his VHS tape to Aditya Chopra the legendary director initially chose another actor for the part.
I was completely devastated. He told me that your vibes are very positive. I don’t think you’ll suit a negative role. I knew that he wouldn’t give it to me. I just kept thinking for two weeks; I couldn’t get it out of my head. I felt that this role was for me Parmeet said.
How did he convince Aditya Chopra?
Determined not to let go of the role Parmeet approached Aditya again requesting a screen test. He was handed four pivotal scenes from the film and added his personal touch to them infusing a Punjabi essence into his dialogues. “Archana also contributed and helped me with a few phrases. I gave screen tests with and without the camera because Adi wanted to see how I am in front of the lens. I was so nervous waiting to exhale while watching my own scenes with him. And after a long pause he said that you are my Kuljeet. I jumped and hugged him he recalled.
Parmeet’s persistence and dedication paid off proving that sometimes talent combined with determination can overcome initial rejection.
