Tulsi Vivah, celebrated on the next day of Devuthani Ekadashi, is considered a very sacred and auspicious festival in Hindu religion. It is not just a religious ritual, but also a symbol of the return of auspiciousness and prosperity to the universe. On this day, the marriage of Tulsi Mata (form of Lakshmi) and Lord Shaligram (form of Vishnu) is solemnized.
It is believed that with this marriage, auspicious activities begin in the family, and happiness, peace, love and stability come in married life. This year Tulsi Vivah is being celebrated on 2nd November. Dwadashi Tithi is starting from 07:31 am on 2nd November and will end at 05:07 am on 3rd November.
Tulsi marriage is described in detail in Skanda Purana and Padma Purana. According to the scriptures, Tulsi Mata is very dear to Lord Vishnu, and without her no worship is considered complete. Tulsi marriage is considered a symbol of the divine union of Lakshmi-Narayan, which gives the message of religion, good fortune and dedication to the universe.
Fasting and worshiping on this day brings love and harmony in the lives of married people, while unmarried people get the blessings of a worthy life partner. Tulsi Vivah is also seen as the rebirth of virtue and auspicious energy in the creation.
Tulsi Vivah starts in the morning with bath and purification. After this, the worship place of the house is cleaned and the Tulsi plant is installed on a pedestal or pavilion.
Picture of Lord Vishnu or Shaligram rock, Tulsi plant, yellow and red clothes, coconut, sugarcane, flowers, wedding items (sindoor, bangle, bindi, toe ring), incense, lamp, betel nut, panchamrit, akshat, turmeric-kumkum, kalash and silk thread. Preparations for the wedding ceremony are done by decorating the puja place with all these materials.
First of all, Tulsi Mata is bathed with water and dressed in red clothes. She is decorated with vermilion, bindi and bangles, just like a bride is adorned. The idol of Lord Shaligram or Lord Vishnu is bathed in Ganga water and dressed in Pitambar clothes. Tulsi Mata and Shaligram ji are made to sit face to face.
After this the marriage mantras “Om Tulsyayi Namah” and “Om Shaligramaya Namah” are chanted. A symbolic union of the two is done with a silk thread, which represents the sacred bond of marriage. The ritual of Kanyadaan is performed by offering coconut and betel nuts to Tulsi Mata. At the end, Aarti is performed and Prasad is distributed.
It is believed that organizing Tulsi marriage brings happiness, peace, prosperity and positive energy in the house. This marriage is a celebration of the union of Lakshmi and Vishnu, which establishes an auspicious atmosphere in the family. Those who are themselves eligible for marriage, they get early marriage and a suitable partner by participating in Tulsi Vivah.
