The vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship found its new owner after CM Punk defeated Jey Uso to get his hands on the gold during "Saturday Night's Main Event" inside the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Punk secured the ultimate victory by executing the GTS (Go To Sleep) twice on Uso.
The match had many high moments with Punk dominating the majority of the proceedings. The top two contenders for the World Heavyweight Championship were being keenly watched by a crowd that seemed to be split at the start of the match, with two fan favorites competing in the ring.
As the Chicago native kept the heat on against his opponent, Uso found a spot to capitalize and take the upper hand. He briefly managed to go up to the top turnbuckle for a second frog splash attempt before Punk managed to cut off Uso and deny him any opening with a suplex from the turnbuckle.

The action moved outside the ring after Uso speared Punk through the barricade. After the two wrestlers got back on their feet and managed to get back in the ring, Punk countered Uso's frog splash but put his knees up.
Punk would land his finishing move on Uso, but it was certainly enough to put Uso away. The two men would continue to counter one another before Punk managed to seal the deal to win the title. The title felt vacated after previous champion Seth Rollins sustained an injury during a singles match with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at "Crown Jewel."
