Imagine the evening sky, the light cool breeze and the suddenly emerging supermoon which appears bigger and brighter than usual. At first glance it may seem like a scene from a movie, but how would you feel if it is not an imagination but a reality? Actually, the month of November is going to witness this unique glow descending from the sky. Let us tell you that on the evening of 5th November, the nearest supermoon of 2025 will be visible, which will be about 14% larger and 30% brighter than normal days.

NASA scientists say that during this period both the size and brightness of the moon increase. The light bouncing off its surface is more impressive, making it look more attractive than ever.

Know why this time is special?

Most of us look at the Moon every night, but hardly know that it is not at the same distance from the Earth every time. Its orbit is not round but oval, which means there comes a time when it is closest to the Earth. When this happens, the same moon is in the full moon state, then it is called supermoon. This supermoon of November will not be normal, but will be the closest moon of this year. According to astronomers, this night the distance between the Moon and the Earth will reduce to about 3,57,000 kilometers i.e. it will be almost at its minimum.

This supermoon will be visible in its full glory in India from around 6:30 pm on November 5. If the sky remains free from clouds, this view will be visible till midnight. According to experts, this will be the time when the moon will appear roundest, brightest and most massive.

The sea will also be affected

Let us tell you that when the moon comes closer, its gravity becomes a little stronger. For this reason the level of tide increases slightly. Although this difference is scientifically minor, a difference of up to a few centimeters can be seen in the height of waves in marine areas. The best thing is that you do not need any telescope or expensive equipment to see this celestial view. For this there just needs to be a clear sky. Try to go to an open place away from the glitter and street lights of the city, like a park, terrace or river bank… If you look at the moon from there, its beauty will increase manifold.

If you are fond of photography, then do not forget to take photos or videos with mobile camera or DSLR. Later, when the normal full moon arrives, the difference between the two pictures will be clearly visible. You will see one small moon and another that looks like a huge bright disk.

‘Beaver Moon’

This November full moon is traditionally called the ‘Beaver Moon’. This name is linked to an old tribal tradition in North America. In those times, before winter, people used to set traps for the fur of beavers (a water creature that builds dams). The November full moon became the symbol of that season and has since been called the Beaver Moon.

When will the next supermoon be visible?

If for some reason you could not see the spectacle on November 5, there is no need to be disappointed. The next and last supermoon of this year will be visible on December 4, 2025. Although, it will not be so close, but it will definitely light up the sky with its brightness and grandeur. Earlier, the supermoon that occurred on October 7 was known as ‘Harvest Moon’, which symbolizes the harvest season. In this way, every full moon has its own name and meaning, which connects us with the old customs of nature.
