Nowadays, health and fitness conscious people are including oats in their diet. It is considered rich in fiber and nutrition and is generally said to help in weight loss, heart health and improving digestion. But experts say oats are not safe for everyone. Its consumption may prove harmful for some people.

Oats contain soluble fiber (Beta-Glucan), which helps in reducing cholesterol, controlling blood sugar and maintaining a smooth digestive system. Despite this, people with certain health conditions should avoid eating oats.

1. People with gluten allergy:
Oats are naturally gluten-free, but are often exposed to gluten-containing grains during production and packaging. People with gluten allergies or celiac disease should choose certified gluten-free oats before eating them.

2. People with digestive problems:
Due to the high fiber in oats, it helps in digestion, but excessive consumption can cause problems like gas, bloating and stomach pain. People with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) or stomach sensitivity should limit the amount of oats.

3. Diabetes patients:
Oats have sugar-control properties, but flavored or instant oats often contain added sugar. For diabetic patients, it can suddenly increase blood sugar. Experts recommend that they should only eat organic or steel-cut oats.

4. Thyroid patients:
Some research has found that the phytic acid present in oats can affect the absorption of iodine in the body. People suffering from thyroid disease should consume oats in controlled quantities.

5. People with sleep and mental health problems:
Although it is less common, excessive consumption of oats may increase fatigue or sleep problems in some people. Due to the carbohydrates and fiber present in it, the digestion process gets faster, which can affect sleep.

Experts say that oats should be consumed in balanced quantity and according to your health. Eating it with curd, milk or fruits increases the benefits, but if signs of any problem are felt, the intake should be reduced immediately.

It is important to keep your health and existing medications in mind before consuming oats. With correct information and caution, the benefits of Oats can be taken full advantage of, while carelessness can also cause harm.
