Yamaha has finally brought the much-awaited XSR 155 to India, priced at Rs 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It joins the FZ-X in Yamaha's neo-retro lineup, a bike that's already been on sale here for some time at Rs 1.19 lakh.
Both motorcycles share that throwback neo-retro style, but under the skin, they're quite different. Here's how the new XSR 155 stacks up against the FZ-X. Yamaha XSR 155 Vs Yamaha FZ-X - Engine Specifications The XSR 155 packs the same liquid-cooled 155cc engine we've seen on the R15 and MT-15. It's a high-revving single-cylinder motor that delivers 18.4 hp at 10,000rpm and 14.2 Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. It also gets Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology for smoother power delivery across the rev range, plus a 6-speed gearbox with assist and slipper clutch. The FZ-X, meanwhile, runs a simpler 149cc air-cooled engine that produces 12.4 hp at 7,250rpm and 13.3 Nm at 5,500rpm. Yamaha XSR 155 Vs Yamaha FZ-X - Dimensions At a glance, the two look related. But the XSR 155 is more compact, measuring 2005mm in length and weighing 137 kg. It sits on Yamaha's Deltabox frame, a structure known for its rigidity and precise handling. The FZ-X, on the other hand, has a slightly taller stance and higher ground clearance at 165 mm compared to the XSR's 120 mm. It's marginally heavier at 139 kg and longer too, which makes it feel a bit more planted but less flickable in tight corners. Both offer the same 810 mm seat height. Yamaha XSR 155 Vs Yamaha FZ-X - Hardware The XSR 155 uses an aluminium swingarm with link-type monoshock and 37 mm telescopic forks at the front. Braking is handled by 282 mm and 220 mm discs with dual-channel ABS. The FZ-X, in contrast, uses a box-section swingarm and 7-step adjustable monoshock setup. It also gets the same disc sizes, but only single-channel ABS. However, it does come with practical touches like a USB charging port, a side-stand cut-off, and an eco indicator. Yamaha XSR 155 Vs Yamaha FZ-X - Features Both bikes are fairly modern underneath their retro shells. The XSR 155 gets a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity via Yamaha's Y-Connect app, LED lighting, VVA, and even traction control. The FZ-X isn't far behind; it packs LED DRLs, a bi-functional LED headlamp, traction control, and smartphone connectivity on higher variants.
