However, Govinda’s health is fine now. This word may sound new, but its causes and symptoms can be quite serious. Let us know what is the problem of disorientation?

What is disorientation?

According to the report of Healthline, many times you must have seen that a person suddenly forgets where he is, who he is or what day it is. This condition is called disorientation. This is not just a simple forgetfulness problem, but a mental state in which the person’s mind is temporarily cut off from reality. This condition can come suddenly or develop gradually.

In disorientation, a person is neither able to think properly nor understand the environment around him properly. Confusion, restlessness, anger or scared behavior can be seen in such people. Sometimes they start seeing or hearing things that do not actually exist.

Symptoms of disorientation

When a person has disorientation, many changes are seen in his behavior and thinking.

  • The ability to think and understand reduces.
  • Unable to concentrate.
  • False beliefs or illusions start forming.
  • Restlessness or irritability increases.
  • Sometimes a person starts wandering here and there without any reason.
  • Confusion and confused conversation are also seen in many cases.

Due to disorientation

Disorientation is not an independent disease, rather it can be a symptom of many mental or physical conditions. There are two main reasons for this, which include delirium and dementia.

delirium

This happens due to sudden deterioration in brain functioning. Its effect lasts for a few hours or days. Reasons for this may include side effects of medications, infection, head injury or environmental changes after surgery. Many times elderly people become victims of hospital delirium after being admitted to the hospital.

There are three types of delirium –

  • Hyperactive: The person may become excessively restless or aggressive.
  • Hauppo Active: The person remains sleepy, quiet or isolated.
  • Mixed: Both types of behavior are seen together.

dementia

This condition develops slowly and is usually permanent. In this, the person’s memory, thinking ability and ability to recognize direction gradually starts to fade away. Diseases like Alzheimer’s are the most common cause.

What to do when someone becomes disoriented

If a person seems lost or confused, first contact a doctor. Be sure to inform the doctor about his medical history, medicines and recent events. This will help in identifying the true cause. Keep the environment around such a person familiar and calm. Stay close to him so that he feels security and trust. Familiar things like family photos or his favorite objects can help steady his mind.
