Cases of mobile phone theft and snatching are rapidly increasing. After a stolen phone, many people give up hope of ever getting it back, but the Telecom Department's CEIR portal is keeping this hope alive. Recently, it was revealed that Delhi residents have filed 800,000 complaints on this portal in the last two years.

According to a Live Hindustan report, this portal has located more than 500,000 mobile phones and shared the location information with the police, but so far, the police have only been able to recover 13,000 phones. Shockingly, if you look at the location information provided by the police and the data on recovered mobile phones, you'll notice that this figure represents only 3 percent. Let's learn how you can file a complaint through the government portal CEIR.

How to file a complaint through CEIR:
Go to https://www.ceir.gov.in/Home/index.jsp and click on the "Block Stolen/Lost Mobile" option on the left side of the website's homepage.

After tapping this option, a new page will open, asking for some important information.

After providing the phone's details, you will also be asked for details about the theft, such as where and in what state the phone was stolen.

You will then need to provide some personal information. After providing all the information, press the "Submit" button. After following these steps, your phone will be blocked.

What is the police saying?
A senior police officer stated that if a mobile phone is switched off after being traced, it becomes difficult to trace it. Currently, the police do not have any software to trace the IMEI number.

Sources say the phones were recovered, but they haven't reached the people who owned them, and they remain at the police station. The telecom department sends SIM details, mobile phone location, and FIR number to the police. Therefore, it's not difficult for the police to reach the phone owner, but due to negligence, recovery is not being carried out properly.
