Mumbai: Actress Elnaaz Norouzi, recognized for her roles in Sacred Games and Tehran, has demonstrated remarkable perseverance while filming Mastii 4, despite suffering a knee injury.
The actress diligently practiced her dance routines with choreographer Adil Shaikh, successfully completing four consecutive song sequences and crucial scenes without causing any delays in the production schedule.
The injury occurred during the filming of 'Ishq Bukhaar' from her earlier project, Tehran. With all four songs slated for the beginning of the shooting schedule, she was determined to avoid any production holdups, pushing through the pain to finish each song before transitioning to the film's scenes.
With the aid of physiotherapy and careful movement, she managed to continue her work safely. Reflecting on her experience, she stated, “Injuries are common on set, especially with dance involved. I was frustrated with my knee acting up, but I didn’t want it to disrupt our momentum. We were in a great rhythm, and I wanted to stay connected with the team.”
The supportive atmosphere on set contributed to her positive spirit. The cast and crew frequently checked in on her, maintaining a light-hearted mood filled with friendly banter.
She shared a humorous anecdote, saying, “My birthday coincided with the Mastii 4 shoot. Milap wished me, saying, ‘Happy birthday! Wishing you a year full of love and harmony.’ But instead of ‘harmony,’ he jokingly wrote ‘knee’! When we were about to film one of the songs, instead of the usual ‘Go, break a leg,’ they playfully said, ‘Break a knee!’ Everyone kept making jokes about it, and even Vivek started calling me El ‘Knees’ instead of Elnaaz.”
Elnaaz noted that the knee-related jokes were a constant source of amusement, with someone coming up with a new one each day.
She added, “Rather than feeling injured, it felt like everyone embraced my knee into the group. It may sound silly, but these little things keep you motivated.”
Despite the discomfort, she successfully completed all four scheduled songs, adapting choreography as necessary and taking breaks between shots.
“Dancers and actors often push through challenges. I’ve always believed in showing up, no matter the circumstances. As long as the doctors approved and I could move, I wasn’t going to sit out. Being on a set with positive energy makes a huge difference. The laughter really helped; Milap, Riteish, Aftaab, and Vivek are a fun group. The knee didn’t win, and it certainly heard enough jokes to retire,” she concluded.
Mastii 4 is set to hit theaters soon.
