The Duchess of Sussex faces potential setback as her Netflix programme, With Love, Meghan, could be scrapped before the new year.
The programme, which features Meghan in conversation with celebrity guests whilst preparing food, has a festive episode scheduled for the forthcoming weeks. Following this, the streaming platform may axe the series altogether amid predictions of declining audience numbers.
Bookmakers' odds suggest the streaming service is currently 6/4 to cancel the programme after Meghan's Christmas episode, whilst viewership is priced at 5/4 to hit an all-time low for the series.
Figures from Esports Bets suggest the Christmas episode is anticipated to receive a lukewarm response, with both ratings and audience numbers expected to fall.
The future of With Love, Meghan, hangs in the balance, with the odds indicating it may conclude with the festive instalment, reports the Express US.
Christmas '6/4 cancellation chance'Darragh Harbinson, spokesperson for Esports Bets, said: "The upcoming Christmas special feels like a litmus test for With Love, Meghan, after persistent scrutiny from critics throughout the year.
"The odds point to a softer audience than previous episodes - at 5/4 for a record low - and there's a 6/4 chance the show is cancelled in the aftermath if Netflix feel the numbers don't stack up."
The development follows a public relations expert's cautionary remarks regarding Meghan's recent professional venture as she was spotted returning to the acting world. The Duchess of Sussex, who retired from her acting career eight years ago, has now joined the cast of the forthcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends.
Meghan acting return: reputational crisis
Meghan will be portraying herself in the film and has been seen on set in Pasadena, California. While fans are thrilled about her return to acting, PR expert Ryan McCormick has cautioned that Meghan's appearance could lead to a "reputational crisis."
In an exclusive interview with The Express US, the expert elaborated, "What could cause this engagement to become a reputational crisis is if her acting dramatically pales in comparison to her featured co-stars to the point where it appears they are in two different films."
However, he suggested that a "brief but memorable role" could be beneficial for the former Suits actress.
Strong hand, if she plays it right
McCormick informed us, "A brief but memorable role could be very positive for Meghan Markle, especially if the film is critically acclaimed.
"October 2025 was the lowest US box office performance in 27 years, so it seems that things can only get better. This timing actually works in Markle's favour - studios are experimenting more with casting, and audiences are hungry for fresh narratives."
The PR expert concluded, "By having a brief appearance, the pressure of delivering success is alleviated on Markle. She has a very strong hand."
