A woman who is transforming her newly-bought property into a bakery has revealed an amazing find behind overgrown shrubs at the back of the site. Since acquiring the building, formerly an opticians, Nelly has been sharing its renovation into a fully operational business premises that will also house her mother on the first floor. "Five years ago, I fell in love with this property... and today, it's finally mine," she disclosed in a TikTok video in October.
"It wasn't for sale back then, but I never stopped dreaming. When it finally went on the market, I took a chance and got it! Now, I'm turning it into my dream bakery - a place built from patience, passion, and pure faith."
In an update on the project, Nelly confessed she was left "speechless" by what was behind a mysterious white door.
"We finally cleared the space around that mysterious door... I was so anxious to open it, but with a bit of help from my mother-in-law, we did it - and what we found left us speechless," she said.
Nelly continued to muse: "Another room, we didn't know about it and the sellers wouldn't have known either? Absolutely unbelievable."
She went on to post a time-lapse video of the door being uncovered, adding: "When I found this white door while clearing the garden, I thought it was an outside toilet."
However, what was concealed behind the door turned out to be something quite different. "My mother-in-law was very curious and wanted to help me clear the area faster and find out what was hidden behind the door," Nelly continued.
Once the brambles were cleared away and piles of unwanted garden waste removed, it was time for the big reveal. Nelly carried on filming as she opened the door for the first time. "Wow look at that!" she exclaimed. "Oh it's amazing and it is huge."
Indeed, the pair quickly realised the room was substantial in size and packed with discarded furniture. "There's so much rubbish and another skip is needed, but wow!" Nelly said, noticing the room even has its own fireplace.
The discovery led others to speculate about its past use. "Possibly an old scullery where the laundry was done," one TikTok user suggested.
To which Nelly replied: "Possible, I thought they used to use it as a living room and to cook food. Not an expert on the property types but this is in a small miner's town, all terraced houses and they seemed to have been built similarly."
Whilst a second person added: "Before you opened the door, from reading your description I thought it may have been a coal house but I'm thinking no after seeing the size! Good find!"
Meanwhile a third individual pondered: "Being in construction I'm always amazed how many people find these covered up doors after they bought the property, have people stopped having surveys done before buying? Or are surveyors and estate agents just getting too lazy?"
Whilst a sceptic fourth asked Nelly of her discovery: "Why were you so surprised? You can see it's an outbuilding and the size of it, from the outside?"
Nelly explained in response: "I think because of the state of the garden I just expected to find something in a really bad, stinky, smelly condition. Honestly didn't cross my mind and haven't seen a room like that before. It wasn't included on the description when we bought the house so clearly the sellers didn't know about it either as it was a probate.
"I bet the sellers would have asked for more money as this wasn't part of the property description. I did pay for a full structural survey, but they couldn't examine the back of the property because of the overgrown garden."
