In Ayurveda this problem is called bed urine. It is not just a habit, but is considered a matter to both body and mind. Ayurveda says that the problem of bed urination in children is due to the imbalance of Vata dosha and Kapha dosha, due to which the nerves become weak and cannot bear the weight of anything. Increase of Vata dosha and Kapha dosha leads to deep sleep, due to which the brain is unable to give signals and children soil the bed.

Also, sometimes due to weak digestion, Vata dhatu becomes unbalanced and urinary control becomes weak. Scientifically, it has been linked to bladder weakness, bladder not developing properly, inability to receive signals during deep sleep, excessive urine production at night, constipation, UTI and hormonal imbalance.

Some ways to reduce this problem have been suggested in Ayurveda. The first is to mix celery, black sesame seeds and jaggery and feed it to the child with milk. Nerves become stronger by its consumption. Secondly, mixture of Amla and honey is also beneficial. Feed the child a mixture of Amla and honey twice a day.

The thing to keep in mind is that at this time do not scold the children at all and do not embarrass them in front of others. This problem is not only of the mind but also of the body. Develop a habit in children to go to the washroom before sleeping at night. Apart from this, explain to the children lovingly that they should understand the signals of their body. Many times children ignore signals because they are playing or sleeping, which is not right at all.
