Birth Certificate Cancellations: Millions of birth certificates are soon to be cancelled in this state. It's possible your name might be on the list. So, be sure to check your documents.

Birth Certificate Cancellations: In India, various documents are required for every government process. From school admissions to passports, birth certificates are among the most important documents. People use them as official proof of their birth. But now, many people in Maharashtra are facing cancellation of their birth certificates.

The state government has decided that birth certificates based solely on Aadhaar cards will no longer be valid. Aadhaar provides identity, but it does not prove birth. The government discovered that many fake birth certificates were created by exploiting this gap. Therefore, millions of birth certificates are being cancelled. Is your name also on this list?

Why are birth certificates using Aadhaar being cancelled?

The SIR process is underway nationwide, and the Supreme Court is debating whether Aadhaar is valid as a birth certificate. Meanwhile, Maharashtra has issued a notification declaring that the Aadhaar card will not be accepted as a birth certificate. Aadhaar only identifies a person, but does not indicate when or where they were born. This has led to numerous cases of fake certificates.

The use of these certificates for false identities, false ages, and illegal activities has increased. To curb this threat, the Maharashtra government has taken a major step and issued an order declaring all Aadhaar-based birth certificates immediately void. Now, authentic documents such as hospital records, school entries, and municipal corporation registers will be required for each certificate.

Are you included in the list?

Many people are now wondering about the Maharashtra government's decision to cancel birth certificates. They fear their birth certificates may also be revoked. If you obtained your birth certificate solely based on your Aadhaar card, your certificate could also be revoked.

The government is re-verifying these certificates and deactivating all such records. However, if your birth certificate was not generated using Aadhaar, but rather based on hospital records or municipal documents, there's no need to worry. Your certificate will remain valid and will not be changed.
