In October, a Pride and Prejudice table-read starring Ambika Mod and Daisy Ridley raised funds for Palestine, and in September, a benefit concert hosted by industry heavyweights including Benedict Cumberbatch, Nicola Coughlan, Florence Pugh, and Richard Gere raised $2 million.
Although Hamas and Israel signed a truce on October 9, ending two years of intense warfare, Amnesty International reports that Israel continues committing acts of genocide in Gaza, with at least 68,000 Palestinians killed and hospitals, schools, and homes devastated.
Meanwhile, Sudan has been facing a brutal civil war since April 2023. Atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces, the main paramilitary militia, in the town of El-Fasher recently drew international attention. The RSF laid siege to the town for 18 months before capturing it. Eyewitnesses reported bodies in the streets, mass executions, rape, torture, and confirmed famine in parts of the affected area. The International Criminal Court has stated that the atrocities in El-Fasher could constitute crimes against humanity.
The upcoming benefit concert aims to bring global attention and critical humanitarian support to both Palestine and Sudan, with proceeds directed to trusted organizations providing relief on the ground.
