Liverpool's dressing room has been left in turmoil following the club's shocking recent form, with senior players believing that Arne Slot has been badly let down. The Reds are going through their most dismal period in 72 years following their humiliating Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven. That crushing loss came on the back of a third consecutive Premier League reverse, with Nottingham Forest also comfortably winning at Anfield.

Their woeful run has placed Slot's job in serious jeopardy, with the Dutch manager presiding over nine defeats in just 12 matches. Tempers flared in the dressing room after the Forest game with captain Virgil van Dijk and other senior figures reportedly 'irked' by the current situation, according to the Daily Mail. The prevailing view amongst the squad is that manager Slot is being badly served by his players.

The team's overriding sentiment is said to be one of bewilderment, given their current crisis has emerged just months after they stormed to Premier League glory.

This season has seen Liverpool languishing in the bottom half of the table, trailing leaders Arsenal by 11 points. Several players have also gone public with their frustrations.

Academy graduate Curtis Jones delivered a brutally honest verdict after the PSV humiliation, saying: "It's unacceptable, to be honest.

"As I said, I don't even have the words, I'm past being angry and sad, I'm at the point now where I don't have the words.

"It's hard to find the words. I'm a player and a fan, I'm seeing it like this, I haven't experienced a team play like this bad and results like this.

"At the end of the day, we still have that badge on our chest, until that badge goes, we're always going to fight, try get this team to where it needs to be and show why Liverpool is the best team in the world. But as of now, we're in the s*** and it needs to change."

Slot, meanwhile, acknowledged in his latest press conference that his squad have fallen short of expectations. The Dutchman doesn't feel disappointed by his players, though.

"No, not at all," he said on Friday. "Although I do agree with you that our standards, and with our, I mean the team, [they] have not been of the standards we are used to and that we want.

"We think we can play better than we do. But last season when we did really well there was a lot of focus on certain individuals and I always said it should be about the team and the team makes the individuals look very good.

"If the opposite is happening, we should also look at the team and not the individuals. That's what it's about for me."
