Bengaluru is set to experience cooler temperatures and light rain in the first week of December, influenced by Cyclone Ditwah's impact on the Tamil Nadu coast. The temperatures in Bengaluru have dropped significantly and the city might experience moderate rain on Tuesday. The city will see a layer of mist next week and temperatures are also expected to go down.

Bengaluru is likely to experience significantly lower-than-normal temperatures and light rain in the first week of December due to the impact of cyclone Ditwah on the Tamil Nadu coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. Bengaluru is likely to witness generally cloudy skies until Tuesday and likely moderate rain. The IMD's weather bulletin also said that the city is likely to experience mist during early morning hours in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 25 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Residents of Bengaluru should prepare for patchy rain throughout the day, with humidity levels reaching up to 94%. The air quality index indicates a moderate level of pollution.

Bengaluru weather forecast

According to the IMD forecast, the weather conditions are expected to remain similar in Bengaluru with the with the maximum temperature rising marginally by one degree to around 22 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius is nearly six degrees below normal for the season, while the minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius is 1.5 degrees below normal.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Bengaluru was 21.6 degrees Celsius, which is 5.8 degrees below normal and the minimum, 18.4 degrees Celsius, was 1.2 degrees below normal. The mean maximum temperature in December in Bengaluru over the last 15 years is 26.9 degrees Celsius, while the minimum has been 16.4 degrees Celsius. The rest of the week is also expected to see light to moderate rain.

Misty conditions are expected every day from 1 to 6 December in Bengaluru. Residents can expect soft winter mornings ideal for brisk walks, with temperatures remaining comfortably cool throughout the first week of the month.

Cyclone Ditwah impact in Bengaluru

Bengaluru has been witnessing a sharp drop in temperatures since November 27, when cyclonic activity developed over the Bay of Bengal. Since then, the city’s maximum temperature has fallen by 2–6°C below normal levels.

According to IMD records, Bengaluru’s all-time lowest minimum temperature is 7.8°C, logged on January 13, 1884. In more recent years, the lowest December minimum in the past 15 years was 12.8°C, recorded on December 24, 2011. Cyclone Ditwah has caused severe damage in Sri Lanka, leading to over 300 deaths and hundreds of people missing. The cyclone moved parallel to the Indian coast, ultimately weakening into a deep depression and then a mere depression, without making landfall in India.

Karnataka weather update

According to Regional Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Chamarajanagara, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Chikkaballapura and Mandhya districts. Dry weather is likely to prevail over Bellari, Bengaluru (rural), Bengaluru (urban), Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Shivamogga, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara districts.
