A heartbreaking incident in Karachi has once again exposed the city’s alarming civic negligence. A three-year-old boy, Ibrahim, tragically lost his life after falling into an uncovered manhole near a departmental store at Nipa Chowrangi late Sunday night. Karachi, already known for its frequent accidents caused by poor administrative oversight, continues to struggle with open drains and damaged manholes across major areas.
According to reports, Ibrahim was out shopping with his parents when the tragedy struck. Within moments, he slipped into the open manhole right in front of his father. Bystanders quickly attempted to rescue him, but the search turned into a long, agonizing operation. After nearly fourteen hours, the child’s body was recovered by a young resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, as locals led the rescue efforts themselves due to the absence of official authorities.
The devastating incident sparked widespread outrage. Many celebrities expressed deep sorrow and frustration over the recurring civic failures that continue to claim innocent lives. Well-known personalities including Mishi Khan, Waseem Badami, Amar Khan, Ahsan Khan, Reema Khan, Mahira Khan, and Sajal Aly condemned the lack of safety measures and called for urgent accountability. Their reactions reflected the anger felt by Karachi’s residents, who have long complained about open manholes and decaying infrastructure.
Mishi Khan openly criticized Karachi’s administration, accusing officials of incompetence and corruption. Waseem Badami also expressed disappointment, pointing out the steadily deteriorating condition of the city and the authorities’ failure to address basic public safety issues. Many other celebrities shared posts mourning Ibrahim’s death and demanding immediate action to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
