Strictly Come Dancing fans were left on the edge of their seats this weekend after watching history unfold for the long-running BBC dance competition. On Sunday night (November 30), viewers watched the six couples whittled down to two for the dreaded dance-off. This week, Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon and Alex Kingston and Johannes Radebe found themselves with the fewest votes as they faced off on the dancefloor for the judges.
This marked the EastEnders star's fifth dance off on the show, with the actress repeating their jive to Right Back Where We Started From by Maxine Nightingale. Meanwhile, Alex and Johannes danced their Cha Cha to Ring My Bell by Anita Ward.
The soap star defied the odds in the live dance off and managed to secure her place in next week's show. The TV favourite has now taken the title as the new contestant to boast the most victories in the dreaded dance off in show history.
Jamelia - who competed with Tristan MacManus back I 2015 - faced five dance-offs on the dance competition, but she lost her place in the show on her fifth attempt to fellow stars Peter Andre and Janette Manrara.
Meanwhile, other stars who have lost four dance-offs on the show include Jamie Laing, Fleur East, and Molly Rainford. During last night's episode, three of the judges voted to save Balvinder and Julian.
Anton du Beke was the only judge to choose Alex and Johannes, insisting: "Both couples fixed their mistakes, but they showed better quality." However, Motsi Mabuse argued: "It was close with no mistakes, but [Balvinder and Julian] had more attack."
Craig Revel Horwood agreed, adding: "She danced the pants off it tonight and had timing and energy." Ultimately, the deciding vote came down to Shirley Ballas, who chose to save Balvinder and Julian, arguing: "They upped their game more and added spice".
It didn't take long before viewers flocked to X to celebrate the duo for making history on the BBC show. Taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - one user asked: "Did Balvinder and Julian just become the first pair to win five dance-offs ever? Oh, the stars this season."
Another agreed: "Alex and Johannes have been great over the last 10 weeks. Sadly just not the best week for them this week." Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays from 6.20pm on BBC One, or catch up on BBC iPlayer.
