beth mooney She once again proved why she is one of the premier players in women’s T20 cricket, scoring 94* off 61 balls to lead Perth Scorchers to a seven-wicket win against Brisbane Heat. WBBL|11 Secured their place in the play-offs.

Beth Mooney leads Perth Scorchers innings with class and control

Chasing the target of 165 runs, moony handled the innings with his characteristic calmness and accuracy, guiding the Scorchers to victory with four balls to spare at the WACA on Saturday, 6 December.

The win not only solidifies Perth’s position in the finals race, but also ends any hopes for the Heat to finish without a win this season.

Opening the innings, Mooney took complete command from the first ball, hitting 12 fours in a brilliant innings that showcased his ability to change gears. His innings was a blend of touch and timing, allowing the Scorchers to control the required run rate and protect their inexperienced middle order from scoreboard pressure.

Mooney formed three important partnerships throughout the campaign:

  • 42 (10 runs from 13 balls) with Katie Mack laid the foundation for the first wicket.
  • 67 (24 runs from 22 balls) with Maddy Dark for the second wicket, provided stability after the early innings chaos
  • 37 (13 runs from 14 balls) with captain Sophie Devine for the third wicket, extended the chase in the final overs

England all-rounder Freya Kemp showed a late spark, remaining unbeaten on 12 off 6 balls, as the Scorchers cruised past the target with confidence.

Mooney’s unbeaten 94 – one of his finest innings in orange – puts him firmly in the discussion for WBBL|11 Player of the Tournament, especially given his consistency at the top of the order.

Georgia Redman leads Brisbane Heat effort but winless season ends on a bitter note

Earlier, Brisbane Heat scored 164/7, riding on an excellent inning of 57 runs from 47 balls by Georgia Redman. The Redmen found some moments of pace in the middle overs, but regular wickets prevented the Heat from accelerating into the 170-180 region against the strong Scorchers.

Despite a useful cameo, the Heat’s inability to convert starts once again cost them dearly – a theme that came up again and again in a campaign that ended winless. Their bowling attack showed early discipline, but had no answer to Mooney’s balanced attack.

WBBL|11 Finals Scenario: Scorchers’ knockout route depends on results against Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers

With this win, the Scorchers have booked a place in the WBBL|11 knockout stage, but their exact path to the final will be decided by the results of the Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers.

If Sixers win:

  • Sixers finish in second place
  • Scorchers fall to third place
  • Scorchers will have to win both Knockout and Challenger to reach the finals

If the Sixers lose:

  • Scorchers secure second place
  • They go straight into the Challenger, needing only one win to face the Hobart Hurricanes in the final on December 13

Regardless of other results, Perth’s strong performance sends a strong message: with Beth Mooney in great form and their batting unit, the Scorchers are a major threat in the WBBL|11 play-offs.
