The United Nations (UN) has expressed deep concern over the conditions in which Bushra Bibi Khan, wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, is kept in jail. According to UN report, Bushra is currently lodged in Adiala Jail of Rawalpindi. He has been kept in a very small, closed and airless cell. This room is very dirty, where there is a lot of heat. Mice and insects keep roaming around. Due to frequent power cuts the room remains immersed in darkness.

It has also been said in the report that Bushra Bibi is not being given clean water to drink. So much chilli powder is added to food that it becomes unfit for consumption. This has had a direct impact on his health. According to UN, Bushra Bibi's weight has reduced by about 15 kg. He is suffering from frequent infections, has had several fainting spells and many diseases have gone untreated. The report mentions problems like tooth ulcers and stomach ulcers.

Bushra was kept alone

The report also states that Bushra Bibi was kept almost completely alone for more than 22 hours every day. Sometimes this loneliness lasts for more than ten days. During this period, he is neither allowed to meet his lawyers nor to contact his family or personal doctors.

UN Special Rapporteur Alice Jill Edwards has said that Bushra Bibi's detention conditions could pose a serious threat to her physical and mental health. They Pakistan The government has been demanded to take immediate action. Alice Jill Edwards clearly said that such conditions are completely against international standards.

Imran-Bushra sentenced to 17 years

On Saturday, a court sentenced Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in jail each in the Toshakhana-2 corruption case. The court has also imposed a fine of Pakistani rupees 1.64 crore on both of them. In January 2025, Bushra was arrested in the Toshakhana corruption case. Imran Khan is in jail since August 2023.
