Recently a strange and mysterious incident in a county of Wales has shocked the local people. Hundreds of Victorian-era leather shoes studded with iron nails were found washed up in the sea on Ogmore by the Sea beach in the Vale of Glamorgan area of South Wales. These shoes were black in color and it was clear that they were several decades old. This unique discovery was discovered when three volunteers from a local group called Beach Academy were cleaning rockpools formed among the rocks on the beach. This group works to remove marine debris and restore rockpools, as plastic and other debris often gets stuck in these natural formations. But this time instead of garbage they found traces of history.
Emma Lamport, 56, of Beach Academy, said that most of the shoes found were heavy men's boots, while some were also very small children's shoes. The special thing was that the children's shoes were very small and made of leather, which looked as if they belonged to little girls of old times. Lamport said that seeing these shoes gave him a strange feeling and it was difficult to understand how they got here. According to Lamport, this week alone about 200 shoes were found in a small part of Ogmore Beach. She has been involved with the project since September and has seen various types of marine debris, but finding such a large number of old shoes was completely strange even for her. There were many shoes which were stuck in the middle or buried in the sediment, which are being carefully removed.
Beach Academy also shared information about this discovery on Facebook. It was told in the post that these shoes were buried in those parts of the rockpools, where they were probably stuck for a long time. The group has no idea how many years these shoes were there. It was also said in the post that there must be some story behind every shoe, but at the moment everything remains a mystery. Many speculations are being made regarding the origin of these shoes. Emma Lamport believes that it is possible that these shoes may be connected to an Italian ship that sank about 150 years ago. They estimate that the ship sank after hitting a rock named Tusker Rock. It is believed that a large consignment of leather shoes was loaded in that ship, which sank into the sea along with the ship.
According to Lamport, over time these shoes would have been buried in the sediments of river banks and seas. Due to sea currents and natural changes, now they are slowly coming out and coming to the shore. He told that at one place the situation was as if someone had scattered shoes.
It was really surprising to find such a large number of shoes in such a small area. He also said that initially this discovery seemed a bit scary, because it was difficult to understand how such old and historical items suddenly appeared together. The story related to these shoes is no less than a puzzle at the moment and this makes it even more interesting.
This incident has come to light at a time when a month ago scientists had recovered a cannon, three coins and a ceramic cup from the wreck of a Spanish galleon ship named San Jose near the coast of Colombia. It is believed that that ship contains one of the largest lost treasures in history, whose value is estimated at approximately 16 billion dollars. These old shoes found on Ogmore by the Sea beach may not be as valuable as treasure, but they definitely offer a glimpse of the past.
These shoes not only remind us of the stories hidden under the sea, but also show that sometimes nature itself reveals history to us. At present, local people and volunteers are trying to understand this mystery and are hoping that in the coming time, more clues related to the story of these shoes will emerge.
