These days, a shocking experience is being shared rapidly on social media regarding the salt lakes of the Oasis in Egypt. Carmen, who creates travel content on Instagram, whose account is carmenntravels, told in her post how bathing in a famous salt lake of Siwa almost proved dangerous for her. He says that as soon as the lake water entered his eyes, he felt such a burning sensation that for some time he felt as if he had lost his eyesight.

While sharing this experience, Carmen wrote that other people should not repeat the same mistake. He clearly warned that as beautiful as the salt lakes of Siwa look, they also demand equal caution. In fact, the amount of salt in these lakes is very high. Salinity in some lakes is said to be 90 to 95 percent. Salt present in such high amounts can cause serious problems for eyes, skin and open wounds. He told that as soon as he landed in the lake, water entered his eyes because he had jumped without thinking and his eyes were open at that time.

Why did this happen to him?

As soon as salt water entered his eyes, severe burning sensation started and he stopped seeing anything clearly. This pain was so intense that it was natural to feel nervous. However, it was a matter of relief that this problem was not permanent. By immediately washing the eyes with fresh water, the burning sensation gradually subsided and vision returned to normal. Siwa Oasis is located in the Western Desert of Egypt and is considered a hidden treasure. There are hundreds of salt lakes here, whose water is so dense that a person can swim above it without any effort. It is almost impossible to drown, just like in the Dead Sea. This is the reason why tourists from all over the world come here to experience floating, take photographs and for the so-called healing benefits.

Many people believe that the minerals present in these lakes can be beneficial in skin problems, sinus and some eye related problems. But the truth is also that if proper precautions are not taken, these lakes can also cause harm. According to Carmen, if excessive amount of salt enters the eyes, it causes blinding pain i.e. unbearable pain. Staying in water for a long time causes salt crystals to accumulate on the skin, causing a burning sensation and feeling as if hundreds of small cuts have been made on the skin.

Apart from this, if there is a small cut, scratch or recent shaving anywhere on the body, then severe stinging is felt at that place. This is the reason why entering these lakes without preparation or knowledge is not without danger. Carmen's experience went viral because many tourists make similar mistakes out of excitement and later get into trouble. However, the good news is that this type of eye irritation does not usually lead to permanent blindness. In most cases, this is a temporary irritation, which gets cured by washing the eyes with fresh water at the right time. Still, caution is very important.
