PM Modi writes, Dear Tariq Rahman Saheb, I am very saddened to know about the demise of your mother and former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia. Please accept my condolences on this deep and personal loss. May his soul rest in peace. I clearly remember my meeting and conversation with him in Dhaka in June 2015.
The PM wrote, she was a leader with rare determination and strong faith. She had the distinction of being the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Along with the development of Bangladesh, he also made many important contributions in strengthening India-Bangladesh relations. His demise has left a void that cannot be filled but his thoughts and legacy will remain.

The PM further wrote, I am confident that his ideals will be carried forward under your capable leadership of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. It will continue to serve as a guide to usher in a new beginning and enrich the deep and historic partnership between India and Bangladesh.
He said, at this moment of national mourning, my thoughts are also with the people of Bangladesh, who have shown remarkable strength and dignity throughout their history. I am confident that they will continue to move forward in peace and harmony, guided by our shared values, democratic traditions and a deep sense of national unity.
