Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Amitabh Thakur, lodged in Deoria district jail of Uttar Pradesh, suddenly deteriorated on Tuesday night, after which he had to be admitted to the hospital. Amitabh is in jail in a land fraud case and his bail plea was also rejected yesterday.
Deoria Police informed about the health of the former police officer on Wednesday that Amitabh Thakur's health deteriorated at around 11 pm on Tuesday night, after which he was taken to Maharishi Deoraha Baba Medical College, Deoria. However, after initial examination, the doctors referred him to BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur for better treatment.
Jail officials say, Amitabh Thakur complained about heart related problems inside the jail premises. The jail doctor had examined his health before taking him out of the jail to the District Medical College.
Amitabh Thakur was arrested last month on 10 December. He is accused of misusing his position as Deoria Superintendent of Police (SP) in 1999, using forged documents and fraudulently obtaining an industrial plot in Purva Industrial Estate in the name of his wife.
On the other hand, it is being claimed that his arrest is related to his criticism of the state government on the cough syrup issue. State Congress President Ajay Rai posted a video and demanded that he should be taken to Lucknow and provided with high level medical treatment.
The track record of the BJP government shows what happens to political opponents and those who raise questions.
The deteriorating condition of former IPS Amitabh Thakur ji is a serious warning.
He should be immediately taken to Lucknow and provided high level medical treatment.

Earlier on Tuesday, the local court rejected his bail plea. His remand petition is to be heard on Wednesday. The prosecution said that former police officer Amitabh was produced in the court from the district jail, where his bail plea was heard.
During the hearing, the prosecution and defense lawyers presented their respective arguments regarding the bail petition in the court. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Manju Kumari rejected his bail plea.
After the bail plea was rejected, Amitabh was again sent back to the district jail. After the petition is rejected, his lawyers will file an appeal in the District Judge's court.
