In the last few months, there has been a lot of speculation about change of Chief Minister in Karnataka. It was said that the Congress high command can remove Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and hand over this chair to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. However, for the time being the status quo will remain in Karnataka i.e. no decision has been taken yet on the change of leadership.
It is being said that if there is a change in leadership, then when should it be done or not. This entire matter is in the knowledge of Congress President Kharge, former President Rahul Gandhi and parliamentary party leader Sonia Gandhi. At present the high command has not taken any call on this.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that he has become the longest serving Chief Minister of the state and attributed this achievement to the blessings of the Congress high command and the people. In his second term, Siddaramaiah (77) on January 7 overtook Devaraj Urs' record and became Karnataka's longest serving Chief Minister with a tenure of 2,792 days.
Siddaramaiah said, Minister MB Patil, Shivanand Patil and all the MLAs of the district congratulated me because I have broken the record of late Devaraj Urs. He remained Chief Minister for seven years and 239 days. I equaled him on January 6 and till today, January 9, I have been Chief Minister for three days more than him.
Addressing a gathering, he said, 'This has been possible only because of the blessings of the Congress high command (Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge) and all of you. It was because of his support that I was able to become the Chief Minister twice and also made the record of being the Chief Minister for the longest period. For this I am grateful to the people of the state. On the occasion, Siddaramaiah inaugurated development projects worth Rs 82 crore and laid the foundation stone of projects worth more than Rs 730 crore for Vijayapura district.
