Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash in Baramati. He was reaching Baramati to campaign for the Zilla Parishad elections. However, his plane crashed during landing. There were a total of 5 people on board the plane. Ajit Gambhir, who was seriously injured in the accident, died. This accident happened today at 8.45 am on Wednesday.
After learning the ropes of political innings with uncle Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar has remained an important face of Maharashtra politics for more than 4 decades. He is the 8th Deputy Chief Minister of the state and served as a minister in different governments.
Known as Dada among his supporters, Ajit Pawar entered politics in the 1980s under the tutelage of uncle Sharad. He got his first electoral success in the year 1991, when he won the Baramati Lok Sabha seat. However, he resigned from the post for his uncle after some time. Then Sharad won the by-election here and became the Defense Minister in the then central government of PV Narasimha Rao.
In the same year, Ajit contested from his family stronghold Baramati assembly seat and was elected MLA. And represented that constituency 7 times. He won the 2019 assembly elections by a margin of more than 1.65 lakh votes.
