Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Senior YSRCP (Yuvajan Shramik Rythu Congress Party) leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu was arrested here on Saturday in connection with his alleged objectionable remarks against Chandrababu Naidu. From Saturday afternoon till late night, a huge crowd was seen on the streets of Guntur and outside Rambabu's residence.
In footage broadcast on regional news channels, leaders and workers of the state's ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were seen vandalizing the opposition leader's house and vehicles.
Guntur District Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal said that Ambati Rambabu, who was the Irrigation Minister in the former YSRCP government, has been arrested. He said that hundreds of TDP workers were demanding an apology from Rambabu for his alleged remarks, due to which he was arrested under tight security and in a tense situation.
Meanwhile, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP alleged that Rambabu was fatally attacked and said his life was in serious danger after the 'attack' by TDP supporters.
Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said that incidents of violence and attempts to murder against opposition leaders are increasing day by day and such incidents are being carried out deliberately to intimidate the voices questioning the government. At the same time, YSRCP parliamentary party leader YV Subba Reddy has written separate letters to the Union Home Secretary and Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission regarding the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state, demanding immediate intervention.
