SIR process is going on in many states of the country. So this process has been completed in many states. An accident happened with a school teacher while going for the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) hearing related to voter list revision in Malda, West Bengal. His wife and 9 month old child died in this road accident. Family members claim that Yasin Ansari was under stress after receiving the notice from the Election Commission.
The name of the teacher living in Malda is MD Yasin Ansari. He teaches in a madrasa in Kaliachak area. His family was given SIR notice due to a spelling mistake in the name in the voter list. He had received a notice to come to the hearing regarding this.
On Friday morning, Yasin Ansari was going to the hearing center by auto with his wife Halima Khatoon and son Arif Hasan. The auto overturned on the way near Sustani area. Halima Khatoon died on the spot in the accident, while the child later died in the hospital.
Family members say that Yasin Ansari was under a lot of stress after receiving the notice. His brother-in-law told that if this hearing had not been so necessary, perhaps this accident could have been averted.
Even after losing his wife and child in the accident, Yasin Ansari had to leave the bodies of his wife and child in the hospital mortuary and attend the SIR hearing. This is the reason why there is a lot of anger among the local people.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) has made serious allegations against the Election Commission. The party says the SIR process is inhumane and people are being forced to prove that they are citizens even in the most difficult times. Whereas BJP has rejected these allegations. BJP says that this is a tragic accident. But, it is wrong to link it with the SIR process.
