Two new MLAs of Bihar are in the news. Both are young. She is known for her hot blood and tough attitude in the assembly. The special thing is that both the women MLAs are from the ruling party and both were seen cornering the government in the House. Among the MLAs who are being discussed, one is Maithili Thakur of BJP and the other is Komal Singh of Janata Dal (U). Both of them had asked questions to the government in the Assembly and got the answer, but both of them said that they are not satisfied with the answer.
First let's talk about BJP MLA Maithili Thakur. During the budget session on Monday (February 9), Maithili questioned the poor condition of government hospitals in Bihar. Maithili Thakur asked Health Minister Mangal Pandey a question on the poor condition of the government hospital in her area. Then, not being happy with the minister's answer, he asked a sharp question. Let us tell you that Maithili Thakur is a famous folk singer. He won his first election from Alinagar in November after joining BJP.
During Question Hour, Maithili Thakur raised the issue of the condition of the hospital building in her constituency and said that it has become so dilapidated that a major accident is about to happen. Describing the situation, he said that plaster keeps falling from the ceiling, there are deep cracks in the walls and water leaks in the ward during the rainy season. Despite this, patients are being treated, pregnant women are being admitted and children are being kept in the building, which is a direct threat to people's lives.
He said, I am not completely happy with the answer because it says that the building is not in a bad condition. Just need to fix it. But I want the Minister to explain once again, because I have myself seen that the building is in a bad condition. The health system is running in a small room. No MBBS is doctor. Earlier there were two MBBS doctors there, but now there are no more.
Maithili Thakur questioned that when the government is increasing the health budget every year, then why is the condition of the hospital buildings like this. He said that shortage of doctors and medicines is a problem, but an even bigger danger is the dilapidated buildings which can collapse at any time.
The MLA asked the House whether the government is waiting for a major accident before constructing new buildings. She said, I am not questioning the minister. I am just making a request to him, because I have been seeing the Health Minister as a minister since I was very young. I see him working on health, so I want him to solve it in the public interest.
In his reply, the Health Minister said that the state government is serious about the condition of the hospital buildings. New buildings have been approved for many hospitals, and construction is going on at some places. He also said that hospitals with very dilapidated buildings have been identified and they will be gradually repaired or renovated.
But Maithili Thakur was not satisfied with the minister's answer. He immediately interrupted and said that the hospital in his area has been in the list for years, but till date neither repairs have been done nor construction of a new building has started. Raising the question again, he said that every year there is only talk of planning and approval, but the ground reality remains the same. He also said that patients and their families are forced to seek treatment out of fear.
Now let's talk about JDU MLA Komal Singh. On the second day of the budget session of Bihar Assembly (3 February), Komal Singh opened a front against his own government. During Question Hour, Gaighat MLA Komal Singh raised questions about the reality of stadium construction in his area.
Komal Singh completely rejected the written reply given by the Sports Department. He called it different from the ground reality. In response to this, Bihar Sports Minister and international shooter Shreyasi Singh took charge. Komal Singh said in the House that the report given to him about the construction of stadiums in Jarang and Athwara Panchayat is completely untrue. Komal Singh said that my question is that the stadium which is being talked about is the field of Jarang High School and Athwara High School. Where there is neither changing room, nor football ground nor running track. There is not even a toilet. I appeal to the minister to get the investigation done there and make efforts to get the stadium built. Responding to this, Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh said that a stadium has been constructed there in 2021. That stadium was built at a cost of Rs 1 crore 20 lakh. It was completed under the Chief Minister Sports Development Scheme.
Seeing the debate escalating, Minister Shreyasi Singh found a middle path. He proposed to the MLA that if he is not satisfied, he can be made to visit those sites. The Minister assured that based on the suggestions of the MLA, further action will be taken to remove whatever shortcomings there are. After this assurance the matter calmed down.
Komal Singh is JDU MLA. He had won from Gaighat assembly seat of Muzaffarpur district in the 2025 elections.
Komal Singh defeated RJD candidate Niranjan Roy by a margin of 23,417 votes. At the age of 30, she is considered to be the youngest MLA of Muzaffarpur district. Komal belongs to a well-known political family of Bihar. His father, Dinesh Prasad Singh, is a JDU member of Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) and his mother, Veena Devi, is the Lok Sabha MP from Vaishali seat.
