A Bengaluru woman, who met a 78-year-old man through social media, has been accused of blackmailing him by sharing private videos. He first befriended the old man and then asked for money. The victim's daughter-in-law has also complained that the woman threatened to send her personal photos to the family by creating a fake Instagram account. Cyber police have registered the case and started investigation.
A woman who met and befriended a 78-year-old man on social media has been accused of blackmailing him, the police officer said. Police have registered the case on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim's daughter-in-law. Police is searching for the accused. The case was registered on March 3, but the incident came to light late.
The accused woman first contacted the 78-year-old man on Facebook. Then he gave them his WhatsApp number and continued the conversation. According to the information, the friendly conversation gradually turned into an obscene video call. The complaint states that later the accused woman started blackmailing the man, first demanding Rs 2 lakh and then even more. This incident caused severe mental stress to the family and the housewife said in her complaint that the father-in-law could not contact the police himself due to his age.
Cyber police have registered a case in this regard. Investigation of social media accounts and phone numbers mentioned in the complaint has been initiated and a trap has been laid to nab the accused. Further, it is alleged that the accused woman created a fake Instagram account in the name of a person and threatened to humiliate her family members by linking them to it and sharing their personal photos and videos.
