India-Seychelles military exercise LAMITIYE ends, tremendous coordination seen on sea and land

The joint military exercise LAMITIYE 2026 conducted between India and Seychelles from March 9 was successfully completed. This was the 11th edition of this exercise, the objective of which was to strengthen coordination, mutual understanding and operational capability between the armies of the two countries. LAMITIYE means friendship in Creole language, reflecting the strong India-Seychelles defense ties.

Involvement of three armies

Indian Armed Forces and Seychelles Defense Force personnel took part in this exercise. The Indian contingent also actively participated along with the Seychelles Coast Guard, Air Force and Special Operations Unit. INS Trikand was also deployed for maritime operations.

Exercise on both land and sea

During the exercise, the armies of both the countries jointly carried out several important operations:

  • Establishment of Joint Operations Center
  • Search operations and cordon drills in semi-urban areas
  • Precision Assault
  • VBSS (Visit, Board, Search and Seizure) operations at sea

In these operations, MARCOS Commandos of the Indian Navy and the Special Unit of Seychelles worked together, due to which excellent coordination was seen between the two.

72-hour high-intensity final phase

The final phase of the exercise lasted 72 hours on Praslin Island, which included:

  • Joint Amphibious Operation (Attack from the Sea)
  • Surveillance through drone (UAV)
  • Joint raid on enemy positions
  • Casualty Evacuation

Regional security will be strengthened

LAMITIYE 2026 proved that India and Seychelles are fully committed to security, stability and cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. This exercise was not only helpful in increasing military capability, but also strengthened the trust and relations between the soldiers of the two countries. LAMITIYE 2026 is a strong example of growing India-Seychelles defense cooperation, which will play an important role in the security of the Indian Ocean region in the future.
