Amidst the war with Iran, US President Donald Trump has made a big claim. Trump said that at Tehran's request he is suspending attacks on Iran's energy plants for 10 days. He said that now this time period has been extended till 6 April 2026, 8 pm. President Trump said that in the meantime the talks are continuing and despite the claims spreading misinformation in the media, the talks are going very well.
The pause is the first formal relaxation in US strikes targeting Iran's energy sector since the war escalated, and could allow room for diplomacy. The announcement comes after weeks of US-Israeli attacks on Iran's infrastructure, including key oil and energy facilities, aimed at weakening Tehran's military and economic capabilities.
Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks across the region, targeting US bases and allied infrastructure, escalating the conflict into a wider regional war. It is not yet clear whether this 10-day pause will lead to a ceasefire or will merely act as a temporary moratorium. Trump's statement did not mention conditions for extending the pause, but the mention of the Iranian request indicates some degree of dialogue between the two sides, directly or indirectly.
US President Donald Trump posts, “As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 PM, Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous pic.twitter.com/r6655U0wnB
