Bangladesh will not do anything against India's security... High Commissioner said - both countries should remain carefree

The 56th Independence Day was celebrated in Bangladesh on 26 March. On this occasion, Bangladesh's High Commissioner to India Riyaz Hamidullah said that Dhaka will not take any step which will affect India's security. He said that Bangladesh will never do anything which is against India's convenience. He said that even in security matters, Bangladesh will not do anything that will go against India. Riyaz said that both our countries should feel confident and carefree.

He said that a positive signal for future relations has already been received. This indication has come from a message sent by Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. From this it appears in which direction the leadership of both the countries want to take their relations in the future.

'Indian journalists have also seen the ground situation'

Riyaz Hamidullah said that a new atmosphere is being created between the leadership of the two countries. Referring to the recent political events in Bangladesh, he said that peaceful elections were held in the country for 19 days. He also told that journalists from India had also taken stock of the ground situation.

He said that it has been a month since the elections and everything is stable in Bangladesh. These people feared instability, they have been proved wrong. He described Bangladesh as an open society, where public debate is natural. Sometimes this debate becomes too much.

The High Commissioner pointed out the need to move forward from past differences in bilateral relations. He said that we cannot move forward by continuously looking towards the past. Thinking about what happened before will not help us progress. Both countries should look ahead.

Relations are improving with the new PM

During the tenure of the interim government of Bangladesh led by Muhammad Yunus, there was a lot of tension in the relations between Bangladesh and India. However, both New Delhi and Dhaka are trying to rebuild the relationship after Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Tariq Rahman became Prime Minister following his party's victory in the parliamentary elections.
