Congress candidate's name missing from SIR list in West Bengal, HC said - now go directly to Supreme Court

The controversy is still going on after the introduction of SIR in West Bengal. This time Mohtab Shaikh, lawyer of Congress candidate from Farakka, Murshidabad, has drawn the attention of Calcutta High Court towards this. The petitioner claims that despite the announcement of the candidate's post, his name is not in the SIR list. He has requested the High Court to intervene in this matter. On this the court has asked him to go to the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Sujoy Pal said that the Supreme Court is hearing all the cases related to SIR. SC has ordered that no High Court can hear SIR cases. Calcutta High Court is also only monitoring the administrative work as per the orders of the Supreme Court. Therefore, the petitioner will have to file a petition in the SC. Mahtab Sheikh will now present this matter before the Supreme Court on April 1.

TMC accused the Election Commission

It is noteworthy that names of 11 Trinamool candidates including Kajal Shaikh and Shashi Panja were under consideration in the Special Voter List (SIR). Although the names of Kajal Sheikh and Shashi Panja were included in the second SIR list, the remaining 9 names are still under consideration. Due to this, a big controversy has arisen in the process of amendment in the voter list. Trinamool has alleged that the Election Commission has kept the names of a large section of North Kolkata voters aside for 'verification'.

Mamta Banerjee raised the issue in election public meetings

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directly raised this issue in the election public meeting. He alleged that the Election Commission, at the behest of the BJP, is deliberately trying to remove the names of the victorious Trinamool Congress candidates and their family members from the voter list or complicate it. According to sources, Trinamool will submit a memorandum in this regard to the Election Commission. However, the Election Commission has not yet given any response in this regard.
