IPL 2026: BCCI changed this rule of DRS, now the cunningness of the teams will not work.

Only 2 matches have taken place in the new season of IPL and the situation regarding many new rules is still slowly becoming clear. Some new rules have been implemented in IPL 2026 and some old rules have been changed. One such big decision has been taken regarding the Decision Review System i.e. DRS, which will stop the manipulation of the teams. BCCI has made this big change regarding the use of DRS, in which the third umpire will examine only the decision for which an appeal has been made. That means from now on there will be only one check on one DRS.

It has been told in the report of Cricbuzz that this change was informed in the meeting of all the 10 captains before the start of the new season. Regarding this, BCCI head of match referee Javagal Srinath and umpire head Nitan Menon explained this in detail to the teams and told them how they are to be used. Now the question is what the change actually is and how will it be implemented.

In fact, till last season, in the case of DRS referral, along with the decision against which there was an appeal, the umpire also conducted other investigations. For example, when the fielding team took DRS after the catch appeal was rejected, the wide ball was also checked along with it. But this will not happen now. Now if the fielding team has appealed for a catch, then the TV umpire will give his decision only on this.

If the batsman feels that his bat did not hit the ball and it should have been given a wide, he will have to appeal for a DRS referral himself. But an important aspect in this is that the batsman will also have to make this appeal within the initial 15 seconds. After the TV umpire's decision, there will be no separate 15 seconds for appeal again.

Apart from this, there have been small but important changes in some other rules. A big decision has also been taken regarding concussion substitute. If there is a need to change any player due to concussion, then a similar player will come in his place in the team but he will also be selected from among the same 5 who will be initially selected as impact substitute. If there is a need to change the wicketkeeper, then this responsibility will be given to someone from the squad selected for this match only. If a foreign player suffers from a concussion, then the foreign player will be able to replace him only if there were only 3 foreigners in the playing-11, otherwise only the Indian player will replace him.
