
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devendra Yadav on Tuesday (31 March) formally met the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu. During this, Yadav welcomed him by gifting him a plant symbolizing the environment. He said that the priorities of the government may be different but LG should do the development work of Delhi. Yadav expressed hope that the newly appointed LG will play a leading role in making the capital Delhi a developed Delhi in future.
During the meeting with the Lieutenant Governor, Devendra Yadav also discussed the problems of Delhi and its people. He also gave positive suggestions to remove the plight of Delhi and make it happy based on the experience of Congress taking over the power of Delhi and developing the capital. The Lieutenant Governor assured to work on development plans in future keeping in mind the protection of the interests of the citizens of Delhi and the development of Delhi.
While discussing with the Lieutenant Governor, the Congress leader demanded that the circle rate of agricultural land should be increased from Rs 55 lakh to Rs 10 crore and given to the farmers. He said that land is the only source of livelihood for farmers in rural villages, and after land acquisition, the villagers also lose their jobs.
Devendra Yadav also talked to LG on unemployment and inflation in Delhi. Along with this, concerns were also expressed over the poor law and order situation in Delhi, increasing crimes against women, open firing, kidnapping and increasing drug trade. He also demanded immediate action to resolve these issues. He said that incidents of rape, sexual exploitation and kidnapping of women and girls happening every day in Delhi are spreading panic, which the police is proving almost unsuccessful in controlling.
Along with this, the Congress leader also discussed with the Lieutenant Governor the solution to the burning problems of Delhi like water crisis, air pollution, non-cleaning of poisonous Yamuna, desilting of drains, water logging, collapsed roads and inadequate DTC buses for Delhi. He said that due to the failures of the governments in the last decade, Delhi has become bad.
Yadav also expressed concern over the Delhi government's action to demolish slums. He said that the government is razing the JJ cluster on a war footing without providing any alternative site, whereas the BJP, before coming to power, had talked about banning the eviction of slum dwellers in its manifesto. He said that BJP had also talked about implementing the scheme of building houses where there are slums, but nothing like this happened. He said that it is very sad to uproot poor people as soon as they come to power. He said that the Sheila Dikshit government of Congress never did this during its tenure.
He asked LG to work on unauthorized colonies of Delhi, rehabilitation colonies including J.J. Also expressed concern over the hellish lifestyle of more than 70 percent of Delhi's population living in colonies. Because there is a lot of filth here and the government has no meaningful plan for garbage disposal. He also expressed concern over the unsuccessful disposal of Delhi's three landfills and non-operation of sewer treatment plants.
